I had a half hour interview with Berkely Brean. I believe he did a pretty good job summarizing the situation--although the fact that I got 2 or 3 sentences of my interview clipped and aired as sound bites is not what I was necessarily expecting, to be honest.

I do truly hope that we can start some movement on getting insurance companies to change their policies on cost transparency.

The Excellus representative was correct that yes, sometimes you go in for one procedure and they do something different. If you go in for surgery and they find something else and have to remove it, for example. But why not give the cost of the proposed procedure to the patient, and then give updated costs if necessary? Why withhold all cost information? I find that to be abhorrent and unethical.
